All ukulele lessons will include:

  1. Exercises to limber the fingers

  2. Strumming patterns

  3. Music Theory

  4. Repertoire

 

 

M 0 Beginner's Ukulele

  Goal:

  1. Learn at least one song each lesson
  2. Learn to tune the ukulele

  3. Learn a few things about the ukulele, some history, the parts of the ukulele, including the names of the strings

  4. Learn how to restring your ukulele

Pre-requisite:  No previous ukulele experience required


Class limit:  Max. 8

Class runs 12:00-1:00 once a week (Friday) for 8 weeks
Cost: $40

What to bring to class:

1. A ukulele in the C6 tuning with preferably a low G

2.  A ukulele tuner

M 1 Intermediate Ukulele

 

Goal:

1. To learn at least two songs each week

2. Learn some minor chords: am, em, dm, bm. Learn more major chords: including working on the Bb chord.

 

Prerequisites:

A. Know basic chords: C, G, D, F

B. Be able to tune your ukulele: C6 tuning (G C E A)

Class limit:  Max. 8

Class runs 9:30-10:30 once a week (Friday) for 8 weeks
Cost: $40

What to bring to class:

1. A ukulele in the C6 tuning with preferably a low G

2.  A ukulele tuner

   M 2  Advanced Ukulele

 

Goal:

 

1: To color your music with 7th chords, diminished chords

2. Work on finger picking

 

Prerequisite:  Know the basic chords and their relative minors

Class limit: Max. 8

Class runs 10:45-11:45 once a week (Friday) for 8 weeks

M8b  Continuing Piano with Janet

Continue learning how to play piano!

 

Prerequisites: This is a continuation piano course from our Fall 2022 semester. Only students from that semester can sign up for the class unless otherwise approved by the instructor. 

Class limit: 5 (Closed Group)

Class runs 1:30-3:30 once a week (Monday) for 8 weeks

M8 Intermediate Piano

Students will learn techniques (scales, triads) and can choose their own pieces to play. 

 

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of piano, no beginner's please. Need to have a piano at home to practice on.

M7 Intermediate Piano Appreciation Group

Members will prepare and play pieces for the group.

 

There is no Instructor at present but assistance will be offered in the form of suggestion or example.

 

There is a relaxed atmosphere in the group.

 

Pre-requisite:  Have previous piano experience and be able to play pieces at the level of Alfred's Level 1 Book.

 

What to bring: Any piano pieces you want to play!

 

Class runs 9:00 - 11:00 once a week (Friday) for 8 weeks

A 1 Beginner's Watercolours

 

A basic technique will be shown in each session via online tutorials, in class demonstrations by instructor and one on one feedback and will cover - graduated washes, dry brush, lifting, masking, colour mixing, wet on wet, etc.

  • Watercolour paint - a red, blue and yellow minimum

Winsor and Newton Artist Quality Watercolour Paint, Arches 140lb Cold Press Watercolour paper

A 2 Continuing Watercolours

 

Builds on more advanced concepts and ways to apply them. Sessions will include online tutorials, in class demonstrations by instructor, one on one feedback and will cover - composition planning, advanced brush and texture techniques, using pen and ink and chalk pastels with watercolour, etc.

Pre-requisite: Experience with watercolour painting or A1

A 3  Simple Acrylics

 


Explore the world of acrylic paint in this 3 session course; the first 30 minutes will be lecture followed by  hands-on painting.  Many styles; including Abstract!

 

Pre-requisite:  desire to experiment with acrylic paints
 

Class limit:  8

Class runs 1:30-3:30 once a month for 3 months, see class schedule for dates.

Supplies to bring to class:  pencil, eraser, acrylic paints (a cheap set of paints is fine; red, blue, yellow, purple, white) plus a         larger tube of white (Artist's Loft brand from Michaels is fine); a slightly better set would include purple, green,       orange, burnt umber; "cheap" brushes are okay; a canvas, bristol board or water colour paper measuring 11" x 14" and newspaper to protect the table tops round out the list of supplies.

A 6  Calligraphy

Over the 10 weeks of the course, one hand (probably "Uncial") will be taught in depth with a variety of easily mastered scripts added for use in cards, on posters, etc.

A 8 Introduction to Drawing

 

This is a basic introduction to drawing for beginners.  You will learn to focus on still-life and landscape drawing.  You will be introduced to a range of approaches and skills.  Students will explore the drawing process from beginning to final rendition.
